|Merrillville Noon Kiwanis Enjoys Growth, Plans for More|
Merrillville, IN, August 21, 2008 The Merrillville Noon Kiwanis is experiencing a surge in new memberships this year and is preparing for even more. Sandy Holeman, from Anderson Chevrolet, is the club's most recent inductee.
The group will host their annual Round Up event on Thursday, August 28. While visitors are always welcome at club gatherings, members are encouraged to put forth extra effort to bring family, friends or co-workers to this special meeting.
Secretary/Treasurer Bruce Woods said, “Guests are always welcome, but the Round Up event supplies a focus for soliciting membership and increasing awareness of our community programs.” President Barb Koby adds, “So far we have added five new members this year; ten would be even better!”
The Round Up occurs at an ideal time, right before the group’s biggest fundraising event. Kiwanis’s Fall peanut sales have become a staple in the region. Members from area clubs can be seen outside various retailers throughout Lake and Porter counties handing out packets of peanuts for donations. “Every dollar that we can generate will go to support programs such as the Merrillville High School Kiwanis Scholarship and Merrillville Kiwanis Dictionary Project,” said Woods.
Anyone interested in more information about the peanut sales or wishing to preorder cases of peanuts can call Barb Koby at (219)613-0727. An order form is available online at http://www.goiim.com/peanut_order.htm. Discounted bulk pricing is available and businesses that serve the Merrillville area are encouraged to show their support.
The Merrillville Noon Kiwanis meets every Thursday at the Old Country Buffet in Merrillville, 1634 E 80th Avenue, from noon until 1:00 PM. Anyone interested in making a difference in the community and specifically the lives of children or learning more about Kiwanis is invited to attend.
